Turning books into Bread

Parson's Porch & Book Publishing is a book publishing company with a double focus.  We focus on the needs of creative writers who need a professional publisher to turn their words into books, & we also focus on the needs of others by turning their books into bread by sharing our profits with those who are homeless and displaced by meeting their basic needs of food, clothing, shelter and safety.

These sermons were culled from the hundreds of sermons I preached over a fifteen-year period at the two churches I have most recently served: First Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, Nebraska, and Farragut Presbyterian Church in Farragut, Tennessee.

Both congregations entrusted me with privilege of leading them in worship each week and allowed me to preach with an overarching emphasis on the power and blessing of God’s grace and our opportunity and responsibility to respond with joy and service.

The sermons included here are based on scripture texts from the Revised Common Lectionary and follow the liturgical year, beginning in Advent. It is my hope that they reveal the willingness and eagerness God has to love and care for us, so that the high seas we often face may become still waters.

Matthew R. Nieman serves as pastor of Farragut Presbyterian Church in Farragut, Tennessee. He hails from Orange City, Iowa, and graduated from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, a PC(USA)-related college. He worked in fundraising and special-event planning at BVU for a few years before answering God’s call to ordained ministry.

After receiving his Master of Divinity degree from Austin Presbyterian Seminary in 1999, Matt served as the associate pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, Nebraska, from 1999-2002 and pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, Nebraska, from 2002-2014.

Matt and his wife, Jenni, are the parents of two sons, Jacob and Joey.  Together, they cheer on the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Braves, and a host of college teams.

As a pastor, Matt’s chief ambition is to use his gifts of listening and relating so that others may come to know their supreme value in God’s eyes and the potential they have for serving Jesus Christ.
